ART FROM THE HEART
Edward Sato
Edward Sato is an artist from Taytay, Rizal, born in 1991. His art is all about the power of love.
His path to becoming an artist had many twists and turns. It was a journey of faith, helping others, and finding himself. He learned that making art was his true calling.
He loved art ever since he was a kid. In high school, he was always asked to join art contests. He also served in his church as a Knight of the Altar. He decorated the church for free, which helped him practice his skills. This was an early sign of how he would use his art to serve others.
He tried studying Architectural Drafting in college but soon quit because it wasn't right for him. With help from Msgr. Peter Cañonero, he went back to college to study Fine Arts.
Later, he entered the seminary to study for the priesthood. He thought he would have to stop making art. But even there, he found ways to paint and lead the arts committee. His time in the seminary changed how he saw the world. It gave him strong beliefs that he wanted to show in his art.
He left the seminary in 2019. In 2021, he joined a group of painters called Artipolo, and his passion for art grew stronger. This led to a big discovery.
He found his special style, "Heart Pointillism," during a national art contest. The painting he made was called "Kahulugan ng Buhay" (The Meaning of Life). It was made with many small hearts.
The painting became a finalist. But the real prize for him was not the award. It was finding a new way to express himself. He realized that this style was the result of everything he had been through in his life. The biggest reason for his new style was not the contest, but his life's journey, which was filled with love.
A big inspiration was the Focolare Movement, which he found in 2014. It taught him about a spirituality of love. This changed his art from just a habit into a mission. He began to believe that everything is made out of love.
"Heart Pointillism" is how he shows this belief. He carefully paints many small hearts. Each heart represents a feeling or a memory—like a moment of joy, a hard time he went through, or a connection with people.
When you look from far away, all the small hearts come together to make one big picture. This is like how many small moments of love join together to build a whole life.
Today, as a member of the Artist Community of Taytay, Edward continues to share his message. His paintings show us that every part of our life story is a piece of a bigger picture made of love.
